A few hours later, during the Council of Ministers, Gérald Darmanin received the support of Emmanuel Macron, who welcomed “the very important work of the minister and the parliamentary majority”.
“You are afraid of debate”, assures the minister
In the afternoon, at the National Assembly, the Minister of the Interior had sometimes tense exchanges with deputies from the National Rally. “Yesterday’s non-debate demonstrated one thing, that is that you are afraid of debate. (…) You are proposing exactly the same provisions as the government”, said Gérald Darmanin. Tuesday evening, he will be received at the Élysée with the main ministers for a dinner with the head of state. This will be a new opportunity to discuss this crisis.
