Sète, land of Georges Brassens

The name of the space “Georges Brassens” can put the chip in the ear. The city of Sète is the city of the illustrious singer: he was born there in 1921. Deputy mayor and in charge of culture in Sète, Joan Corporon tells you about the mythical places in the city that marked Georges Brassens: she knows them well! She is also the daughter ofHenry Delpontwho was none other than the best friend of the singer of Buddies first.

We note among his favorite places the pond of Thau and the short tip which he cycled with his father when he was still a child. Brassens was also a swimmer and a fisherman, you could see him near the Corniche beach. We also note the corner of the Roquerols lighthouse.

Georges Brassens now rests in the cemetery of Py since October 29, 1981, in the town of Saint-Gély-du-Fesc on the banks of the Etang de Thau.

Since 1991, one finds in Sète the space Brassens which pays homage to him. In this place dedicated to culture, you can discover the life of the poet through ten thematic rooms: his childhood, his life in Paris or even the cabarets he frequented.

It is called “the girl from the shed“. Pascale Lopez Marchier, her real name, is in love with Sète. Formerly a television host, she has a shed that she offers for vacation rentals, exhibitions, meetings or even thematic events.

Stopover in Sète, the heritage of maritime traditions

Since 2010, the biennial festival “Stopover in Sète“Celebrates the world of maritime traditions in the heart of the city. Behind the organization: an association and 400 volunteers thanks to whom the event is recognized worldwide.

During each edition, nearly 300,000 visitors discover the hundred or so traditional boats present.

The director of the organization, Wolfgang Idiri, introduces you to this very special port of call which makes the maritime and local heritage shine.
