This was not necessarily the most anticipated outcome of recent weeks. But, sometimes, there are twists and turns, even more during the transfer window. Gaëtan Poussin has indeed extended his contract with the Girondins de Bordeaux in recent days. A two-year extension that binds the young goalkeeper and the club until June 2025.
Like Josh Maja, Gaëtan Poussin has agreed to make a major effort on his salary to sign this new lease with the Marine et Blanc. A decrease of 30% of it which also allowed the club to register the arrival of certain recruits this summer. Pushed out by David Guion, who had demanded the arrival of a new goalkeeper at the end of last season (the club had chosen Jonas Lössl before the Dane was retained by Midtjylland), the 23-year-old goalkeeper ended by convincing everyone to keep him as number 1 with notably five clean sheets in six games.
The club closes the door to Elis
It was the last uncertainty of the Bordeaux transfer window. Was Alberth Elis going to leave the club? Finally, the Honduran striker will be a Girondin for a few more months. This Thursday, management refused three new offers for their player. An improved one from the Spanish club Valladolid and two from Greece (Olympiakos and Panathinaïkós). The Girondins, who had set the bar at 10 million euros, were ready to go down to 8 million euros but no club aligned with this request. “Now we will have to put his head back completely because the last few weeks have not been easy but Alberth (Elis) will not be a problem”, suggests a leader.
Baysse ambassador… Koscielny towards the exit?
Finally, the club managed to register no less than 23 departures this summer. It has significantly reduced its payroll. To alleviate this, the Girondins have also reached an agreement in principle with Paul Baysse to terminate his player contract so that he begins his retraining within the club earlier than expected. At first, he will be the club’s ambassador like a certain Laurent Koscielny. Then, if he graduates to become an educator as provided for in his retraining contract, he could join the training center.
A permanent departure from the Girondins de Bordeaux is also a possibility. This is also the trend for Laurent Koscielny. The former international defender and the club hope to quickly find a financial agreement to separate definitively.
