Furax Barbarossa, the underground rapper from Toulouse, is back with a powerful new album

When he takes possession of the Toulouse Bikini stage, Furax Barbarossa immediately sets the scene. The red-bearded rapper and his entire crew invite the public to go on a trip in his “Caravelle”. From the name of his last album released in July 2022.

The Scrapbook Caravel is composed of seventeen hard-hitting and dark tracks including several magnificent collaborations with Scylla and Sofiane Pamart. The street, the dope, the fights, the death, the writing of Furax Barbarossa leaves nothing to chance. “For me, rap does not go without writing, so there have to be polished rhymes”, he said.

Pieces of life told in rhymes and superbly orchestrated melodies, Furax’s project is far from the current codes of commercial rap. “They spend their time saying that they weigh, contemplating the scores, but can we boast that we fuck… when we pay the escort”, does he sing on the track Coliseum. “He is an authentic person who has remained faithful to his values”, assures a fan.

Seventh opus of Furax Barbarossa, Caravel comes in three versions. Each copy includes a different cover and a different bonus track.

Voice of the underground movement, Furax Barbarossa boasts an old-fashioned flow. Shaken by storms and rage, the forty-year-old assumes the hollows and undertows of a perpetual tide. So many upheavals that we find in his verve. “I like Furax for the texts, the way of juggling with the words, with the syllables, the rhymes and the poetry that there is in his songs”, reports a viewer.

For nearly 20 years, Furax Barbarossa has been singing his personal journey without filter. “Dark storyteller and distributor of lyrical potatoes”, this is how the rapper from Corsica and living in Toulouse describes himself on his YouTube channel. A furious poet jostled by the vagaries of life who grew up in social housing in Langlade near Toulouse. But with the explosion of the AZF factory in 2001, he left to live in his truck to meet the world. “I tell my journey, my experience, and I also tell what touches me in others”, entrusts Furax.

“Caravelle” by Furax to be found on all platforms and to listen to live on French stages.
