He remained silent for two years. Before the Assize Court of Drôme, Tuesday, June 13, Gabriel Fortin, nicknamed the HRD killer, made his first statements. He is charged with three murders and one attempted murder.

Since his arrest two and a half years ago, Gabriel Fortin has remained silent. But on the first day of his trial, he was quick to raise his voice and read a text. I have sent a lot of complaints, I alerted deputies, justice ministers, people responsible for the situation, he wrote. The families of the victims denounce indecent remarks.

Three murders in three days

In January 2021, Gabriel Fortin, 46, an engineer by profession, has just been arrested in Valence. Unemployed, he ends a series of murderous revenges in Drôme, Haut-Rhin and Ardèche. He killed two human resources directors and a Pôle Emploi adviser in three days. He was fired several times for serious misconduct and insubordination. At trial, the first witness is his mother, 78 years old. Confused, she called him to explain himself before bursting into tears. His brother spoke of conspiratorial delusions and a feeling of persecution. Defense attorneys declined to comment. Gabriel Fortin faces life imprisonment.
