Sciences: French researchers have invented the most powerful MRI in the world

(France 2)

A revolutionary object has been developed by French researchers from the CEA, the Atomic Energy Commission. Iseult is the most powerful MRI in the world.

“We are entering a new dimension”, assures journalist Damien Mascret on the set of 20 Heures. Today’s MRIs, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, show the inside of the patient’s brain. “It’s a bit like a map of France with the important cities. It’s very good for diagnosing diseases but it’s not enough.”he explains.

Understand how diseases are born

This super MRI is going to be very useful for research. With this new technology, on the images of the brain, “it’s no longer just the towns that we see, but actually the houses”, compares Damien Mascret. Doctors could be led to understand where and how diseases arise. For complex pathologies, it will therefore be possible to look at the connections between brain areas. “We will see the brain in action when it is sick or when it is brilliant”concludes the journalist.
