“Freedom Convoy” | The use of the Emergency Measures Act was unjustified, rules the Federal Court

(Ottawa) The use of Emergency Measures Act by the Trudeau government to end the “freedom convoy” in 2022 was not justified, according to a judgment rendered by the Federal Court on Tuesday.

Judge Richard Mosley believes that the government could have limited its application to Ontario where the convoy took place. Hundreds of trucks had paralyzed downtown Ottawa for several weeks.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association and several groups opposed to health measures had contested the use of this exceptional legislation.

Further details will follow.
