For Shrove Tuesday, anything goes!

Today it’s Mardi Gras, a pagan festival originally, which was later taken over by the Christian religion, since it marks the beginning of Lent. And before “doing Lent” as they say, before fasting, we ate in abundance the meats and pastries prepared with the reserves of butter, egg and oil. This is where carnival donuts were born. That’s it for the little story. Today there are fewer and fewer people doing Lent and fasting, but on the other hand the Mardi Gras tradition has remained beautiful and well. This is how we see in bakeries donuts, bugnes, pancakes, and all kinds of cakes that delight young and old. We toured the Mardi Gras festivities with Hubert Lemoine from the Gaston bakery and chocolate factory in Courcelles Chaussy.
