The Grenoble club, disappointed finalist in the final stages of Pro D2, then defeated in the accession match against Perpignan (33-19) last weekend, is demoted to National “for financial reasons“, announced Tuesday, June 6, the National Rugby League.

This decision is particularly related to 2023/2024 budgetary uncertainties not covered” by the club, specifies the LNR. Grenoble was also penalized with a withdrawal of 6 points “in the classification of the championship in which (he) will evolve during the 2023/2024 season in application of article 3.1.2“.

Grenoble will appeal

In a press release, Grenoble announced its intention to appeal “to prove (his) good faith and (his) willingness to fulfill all the guarantees requested in order to ensure the FCG the future it deserves within French rugby“.

“The leaders of the club wish to reassure all partners, subscribers and supporters as to the investment of its shareholders who will provide all the guarantees allowing our club to continue next season in Pro D2”he says in his press release.

FC Grenoble, a real breeding ground for talent – ​​the club notably trained and revealed Italian international and current Stade Toulousain player Ange Capuozzo – left the top flight four years ago. This year, the Isérois club finished the regular season in second place behind Oyonnax, promoted to the Top 14 next season after winning the Pro D2 final (14-3) against its Alpine neighbors.
