A person located in an apartment building in Rosemont — La Petite-Patrie died in a fire on Sunday morning. The fire, the cause of which is not known, has been brought under control and the file has been transferred to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) requested police assistance shortly before 5:30 am The firefighters had been called for a fire in a residential building on avenue Papineau, not far from rue Bélanger.
There, they located the body of a person in an apartment. His death was pronounced on the spot.
The blaze was quickly brought under control.
“No other injured were reported and the evacuated occupants were able to return to their homes,” said agent Véronique Comtois, SPVM media relations.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. As is the case in a fatal fire, SPVM investigators will go to the scene to shed light on this event.
