The phenomenon of fan films, films made by fans of a saga like “Harry Potter”, is becoming more and more important. One of them, funded by an online kitty, traces the origins of the most evil wizard: Voldemort. On the set, there are only volunteers.

No, this is not the last episode of the saga Harry potter, but the work of passionate amateurs. The director and the main actor of the film on the origins of Voldemort filmed at the castle of Fontainebleau, in Seine-et-Marne. Their short film is a tribute to the hero of their youth. “We wanted to respect the books and at the same time give our paw to us to show something original“, underlines Joris Faucon Grimaud, director of the fan film The House of Gaunt.

They toured for eleven days, spread over three years. About a hundred extras were needed and it took eighteen months to create the special effects. All of them worked for free. The result is a success since more than two million fans have already seen the film on the internet. To finance these projects, film crews often appeal for donations from fans. These unofficial films have become more numerous thanks to the internet. There is thus online a French Batman. An American Wolverine has even been seen over 13 million times. The quality is sometimes even so good that the line between amateur and professional is blurred.
