Briton Robert Hendy-Freegard, who knocked down two gendarmes in Creuse while trying to flee, was arrested in Belgium on Friday September 2.
Robert Hendy-Freegard’s run ended on a Belgian motorway on Friday 2 September. The British scammer was arrested by the federal police, without putting up any resistance. He was traveling west of Brussels (Belgium), on a very busy axis. The license plate of his car was recognized by a video surveillance camera. Several patrols set off in pursuit and quickly apprehended him, ending ten days on the run.
The 51-year-old Briton was the subject of a European arrest warrant. On August 25, in Creuse, he knocked down two gendarmes and then fled during a check at his home. Seriously injured, the two soldiers had to be hospitalized. The fugitive was however far from being an unknown. His story was the subject of a documentary on Netflix. He was convicted in the UK for extorting more than £1million from his victims.
