Electricity prices: for Fabien Roussel (PCF), “it is largely possible to divide by two or even three” the price of electricity produced in France – (France 2)

Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF) and deputy for the North, was the guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Tuesday February 6.

On February 1, the price of electricity increased by 9.8% on peak and off-peak rates, and 8.6% on basic rates, due to the gradual end of the rate shield. Noting that this price “continues to increase”Fabien Roussel said in “4 Vérités” on France 2, Tuesday February 6: “It is largely possible to divide by two or even three, depending on the case, [le prix de] electricity produced in France.” “We are self-sufficient, (…) let’s regain this energy sovereignty”continued the national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF).

“We are going to put this fight at the heart of the European election campaign”, indicated Fabien Roussel. He intends to do with his party “demonstration” that the cost of a reduction in electricity prices “is largely bearable for France, because it will allow us first of all to restore purchasing power to the French, but also to restore competitiveness to our businesses”.

The debt question

Asked about the feasibility of this measure, while France has a debt of 3,000 billion euros, the deputy from the North recalled that “over the last ten years, we have paid 430 billion euros in interest to the banks”. “This was not the case when there was a Bank of France which financed the economy. Today there is a Bank European Central (ECB), and we ask that it lends directly to the States”added the national secretary of the PCF.

“We even say that the ECB can create today a European fund dedicated to financing public services, the ecological transition, and lend at zero or even negative rates when it comes to meeting the needs of humanity, to the needs of each country”proposed Fabien Roussel.
