A 73-year-old general practitioner removed from the Order of Physicians in 2018 nevertheless continued to practice in more than 16 hospitals for five years, franceinfo learned on Friday January 26 from the Troyes public prosecutor’s office (Aube). These hospitals were located in different departments, particularly in medical deserts where there is a shortage of doctors, specifies the Troyes prosecutor’s office. Justice seized 259,000 euros in wages “for his illegal activity”, adds the prosecution. The investigation was entrusted to the Fontainebleau research brigade (Seine-et-Marne) for acts of illegal practice of medicine.
Between 2018 and 2023, this doctor therefore continued to practice, notably in Bernay (Eure), Château-Chinon (Nièvre) and even in Bar-sur-Aube (Aube). According to information from franceinfo from a source close to the investigation, he was removed from the Order after being convicted of abuse of weakness to the detriment of two patients in nursing homes. He is accused of having obtained improper checks from these patients.
Falsified diplomas and registration card with the Order of Physicians
The investigation began following a report from the president of the Order of Physicians of the Aube department, indicates the prosecution: “To get hired, the accused provided each hire with his medical diplomas and sometimes even used a registration card with the Order of Physicians falsified using one of his old cards.”
This man was arrested on January 10 and taken into police custody. According to the Troyes public prosecutor’s office, the searches made it possible to discover prescriptions dated 2023 and photocopies of his false doctor’s card from 2022. After his custody, he was referred and then placed under judicial supervision while awaiting his trial which will have will take place at the Troyes criminal court on June 3.
