It is one of the most legendary circuits in the automotive world. Last Sunday, the Formula 1 drivers set off for the Belgian Grand Prix which is held like every year on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. A route that is very popular with athletes who affectionately call it the “Ardennes slide” and who smiled at the leader of the championship. After a long break of a month, which allowed stars, like Charles Leclerc, to take a few days off, the competition started up again and the immense favorite, Max Verstappen, managed a Grand Perfect price, winning the race and further enlarging his lead over his rivals.
If the pilots generally appreciate the Belgian circuit, there is one for whom this date counts more than the others in the calendar. After a more than mixed first half of the year, Pierre Gasly intends to recover well and his performance during the Belgian Grand Prix was rather encouraging with a ninth place. Yet the emotion was there for the champion who experienced a real tragedy on August 31, 2019 on this same circuit with the disappearance of his friend, Anthony Hubert. That day, the young French driver was involved in a terrible accident during a Formula 2 race.
The beautiful tribute of Pierre Gasly to his friend
During the second lap of the race, he suddenly left the track following a collision and then he was violently hit by another car. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, Anthoine Hubert succumbed to his injuries and plunged the world of motorsport into mourning. Very close to the young man, Pierre Gasly pays homage to him on each of his visits to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit and he did so again last week. On his Instagram account, where he is followed by more than 3.4 million subscribers, Lewis Hamilton’s rival posted a photo showing him when he went to collect himself and lay a wreath at the place of the accident that claimed his friend’s life. “I miss you Tonio”he writes soberly in the comments.
