Dany Bédar leaves (again) La Chicane

“I am announcing today my immediate and definitive departure from the group La Chicane”, wrote the songwriter today on his Facebook page, a decision which he attributes to “several reasons”, the main one being his desire to devote himself entirely to his own career. “It is high time for me to move on! ! ! »

In 2017, Dany Bédar made peace, not with love, but with his former comrade from La Chicane, the singer Boom Desjardins, with whom he had been in trouble for several years. It was in 1999 that Bédar joined the group, then at the height of its popularity thanks to the success of Calvary, to leave in 2002, to try the solo adventure. In 2005 and 2006 he won the Félix for male performer of the year.

“Our old record company did a lot of damage to our relationship. Eventually, Boom and I ran into each other while recording a show on Banker where we each had our children with us. We realized that the water had flowed en masse under the bridges,” explained Bédar to The Press as it got under way in 2017 The last quibble, a tour highlighting the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first album (1998) by the Valdoroise band. The tour in question, which was to last only one summer, concluded during a virtual concert, in October 2020.

In early 2020, La Chicane announced the release of a new album for the spring, When things are going well, in which Dany Bédar collaborated and which he had to defend on the road with his colleagues. But because things were going badly all over the planet, the release of When things are going well has been postponed to fall 2021, then to an undetermined date, somewhere in 2022.

“Thank you Dany for these wonderful years! Boom Desjardins wrote today on his group’s Facebook page, without it being possible to know if he had a little or no resentment in his blood.

According to the photo on the home page of La Chicane’s website, its current roster is made up of Desjardins, as well as bassist Éric Maheu (also a member of Kaïn) and Dany’s brother, drummer Martin Bédar. The guest guitarist who will replace Bédar during the trio’s next tour will be revealed on Sunday at Star Academy. The song I miss youwritten by Dany Bédar, will undoubtedly have a new resonance for many admirers of the group.
