Canadian Diving Trials | Nathan Zsombor-Murray decorated with gold in the 10 meters

(Windsor) Quebecer Nathan Zsombor-Murray won the 10-meter platform final after a close fight with Benjamin Tessier at the Canadian diving trials on Sunday in Windsor.

Alberta’s Margo Erlam won the three-metre springboard event.

Zsombor-Murray shined in his first two dives, which earned him scores of 94.40 and 99.90 points. After a perfect penultimate dive from Tessier for 102 points, Zsombor-Murray had the last word.

He totaled 776.95 points, ahead of Tessier and his 734.98 points. The bronze medal went to Geoffrey Vavitsas (587.80).

“I’m happy to be able to train with Benjamin, he’s really talented and he always pushes me to surpass myself,” said Zsombor-Murray. I needed to be at the top of my game today, because qualifying and the final weren’t easy. »

Just like Erlam, Zsombor-Murray has now met all the criteria established by Diving Canada in the Olympic qualification process for the Paris Games, as his teammate Rylan Wiens had already done at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar .

This was my second Olympic trials and this experience helped me a lot. I did my best to stay calm. Even though I looked relaxed, I was extremely nervous. I think I did a good job of staying calm and doing what I had to do.

Earlier, Erlam finished the three-meter final with a double and a half backflip in pike position that earned him 78.00 points and brought his cumulative total to 512.85.

Pamela Ware finished second with 497.88 points. Amélie-Laura Jasmin has accumulated 464.15 points and is in third place.

“It was a stressful day, maybe the most stressful day of my life,” Erlam shared. I never thought this could happen [de gagner l’or]. I always do my best, but it’s amazing when it happens for real, not just in your wishes and dreams. »

In addition to Wiens, Zsombor-Murray and Erlam, the names of Caeli McKay and Kate Miller will also be submitted to the Canadian Olympic Committee to be part of the team in Paris.
