Company asks for ‘apple absolution’ from Pope Francis

Biting the apple should no longer rhyme with sin. A company has asked the pope to act to restore the image of the fruit victim of “defamation” by religion.

Dole Sunshine Company published an open letter to Pope Francis asking for the apple’s absolution.

“For thousands of years the apple suffered this defamation after Eve took a bite of the ‘forbidden fruit’ in the Garden of Eden. In a fun but hopefully fruitful way, Dole Sunshine Company seeks to reverse this defamation and asks Pope Francis to absolve the fruit of his mistaken role in original sin,” the multinational explained in a statement.

The purpose of the humorous letter is to highlight the benefits of the apple and to encourage dialogue on the subject.

“It’s a small change that can change the world,” wrote the multinational in its letter. Would you consider changing the Bible? Just a quick word. Replace “fruit” with any other unhealthy food, for example? It’s just an idea. If this request seems a bit too ambitious, don’t worry. We understand. Perhaps a message of support would go a long way in restoring the world’s faith in our beloved fruits.”

Dole Packaged Foods & Beverages Group Chairman Pier Luigi Sigismondi hopes to help create healthy eating habits.

“We believe that if we can correct this misrepresentation of the fruit, we can launch a new global narrative that will focus on its benefits, and create new healthier eating habits, in line with our goal of promoting good nutrition. for everyone,” he said.

If Pope Francis decides to take action, he can do so when he arrives in Quebec at the end of July.
