Christian Eriksen trains with Ajax Amsterdam reserve

(The Hague) The Dane Christian Eriksen, victim of a heart attack in the middle of a Euro match in June and since wearing a pacemaker, trains with the reserve of Ajax Amsterdam while finding a club, Ajax announced on Tuesday.

“The Danish international is maintaining his level of form until he finds another club,” said Ajax, where Eriksen played between 2010 and 2013, in a statement.

The Dutch club haven’t said anything about a possible new contract and the player’s return to the first team.

“I am very happy to be here. At Ajax, I know the people, I feel like I’m coming home because I’ve been here for so long,” the player said in the statement.

“I want to get back to my highest level as soon as possible so that when I find an agreement with a club I can take my place there as soon as possible,” he added.

Eriksen has already trained once with Jong Ajax – who play in the second division – last week, Dutch news agency ANP reported.

According to the ANP, the English Premier League club Brentford would be interested in the player, who expressed in early January the wish to play in the World Cup-2022.

Eriksen terminated his contract with Inter Milan in December after authorities in Italy banned any professional player with a pacemaker from practicing in that country.

On June 12 in Copenhagen, the former Tottenham player collapsed in the middle of a match against Finland, at the opening of the Euro. A medical team had to perform cardiac massage on the ground in order to revive him.

Hospitalized, the player had been fitted with a pacemaker to regulate his heart rate.

Eriksen resumed training in early December, taking advantage of the facilities at Danish club Odense.
