Chloé Meyzie, conductor and project leader recount : “It’s a cooperative opera that relies on the skills of our territory”. And it cooperates: 400 people, pros, non-pros, high school students, college students. Make-up, hairstyle, sets, costumes, digital communication: high school students took care of it, a Carmen Academy somehow.
Périgourdins who have a choir
Hélène Caffi is the choir director: “my mission is to prepare all the choirs, adults or children, beforehand, I teach them the music, the lyrics as much as possible so that they are comfortable”. The choirs are the singers, they don’t shabadabada but accompany the soloists.
Among these singers, students from the Agricultural High School of Coulounieix-Chamiers for example. People who are not used to singing: “In any case, these are people who have been moved or touched by the project. This is their first choral experience. We chose a class of Terminale, I have been working with them since the beginning of September to teach them. are ready, they are hot potatoes!”
Carmen’s choice? Carmen is current
“For a lot of things, she’s a free woman. We’re in the 19th century and she’s a free woman, who takes responsibility for her life, in her loves, in her choices. Without spoilers, it really doesn’t end well for her. And here for a few years now, we have been counting feminicides too regularly. And that’s why it’s current”, says Hélène Caffi. “We are 4 women to put together this Boulazacoise version of Carmen, we are very sensitive to gender issues. Carmen was a no-brainer“, adds Chloé Meyzie.
Narrator Franck Pitiot
He plays Perceval in Kaamelott. He will play the role of the narrator. So in addition to the sets, the staging, “We have this idea of making it accessible to everyone with the aim of never losing the listener. He will always know where we are. The staging is very clear. In addition, the Opera is in French so you can come with your family, your neighbors, your children”.
