Bombardier union members refuse employer’s offer

Unionized employees of Bombardier Aerospace in the Montreal region rejected the latest employer offer by 99.6% during a vote held Sunday morning at a general meeting at the Palais des Congrès.

The bargaining committee of workers represented by Local Union 712 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) had recommended the rejection of the offer.

According to a statement sent by the IAMAW, it is the wage offers that do not suit the workers. Bombardier would offer wage increases of 2.5% for the first year, then 2.25% for the last two years of a three-year collective agreement.

Following this refusal, the union members granted a strike mandate to their representatives with a support rate of 98.8%.

Local Union 712 (IAMAW) represents 1,800 Bombardier Aerospace workers in the Montreal area.
