(Montreal) A man who is believed to be at the origin of numerous false bomb threats that have occurred all over the world in recent weeks, including around fifty in Quebec alone, was finally arrested in recent days in Morocco, reported Saturday the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
This 45-year-old suspect is said to have played a role in “a massive sending of emails mentioning a bomb threat” between October 18 and November 27.
“In Quebec, these emails were sent to several educational establishments, but also to businesses, professional offices, governments and the media. In total, around fifty files with the same characteristics were listed by police forces in several regions of Quebec,” explained the SQ in a press release.
In these emails, the sender demanded a monetary ransom in order to reveal the location of the bombs.
“The investigation by several international agencies, in which the Sûreté du Québec collaborated, made it possible to identify and lead to the arrest of the alleged author of these false bomb calls,” underlined the SQ.
The suspect was eventually arrested in Tafraoute, a small town located in southwest Morocco.
