Blue Jeans Blue on top

Bleu Jeans Bleu kicked off its new tour on Friday evening at Club Soda Top Kitty. More united than ever, the group played in an explosive atmosphere and put a smile on the face of everyone present, from the very full floor to the back of the balcony.

The last time Bleu Jeans Bleu played at Club Soda was in the fall of 2019, in the midst of a wave hoodie. “Sometimes during the pandemic, we wondered if we were going to relive that one day,” said singer Claude Cobra after the crowd chanted the name of the group in the middle of the show. ” It’s a yes. And it’s beautiful! »

We understand their relief, but the Bleu Jeans Bleu have in fact picked up exactly where they left off three years ago: at top. And they offered such a solid and delightful show, 90 minutes of shared pleasure, communion and little winks.

In this show carried out at full speed and without any dead time, there were pyrotechnic effects – two small Bengal lights hanging from a guitar neck – and stroboscopic effects, a real marriage proposal from a strong Thierry moving (she said yes), a brass ensemble, an exorcism of French fries, a distribution of flowers, a guitar solo lying on the ground, arms raised and pelvises swaying, choruses sung at the top of their lungs, and of course a huge inflatable pink dog — the one whose photo graces their new album — hangs above the stage.

The evening got off to a flying start with Bacon bellyperhaps one of the “heaviest” songs of Top Kittytheir album released in November, followed by two other short stories, Soft vanilla-vanilla twist and The pure purity of pure butter 100% butter. The group then continued with two of the improbable hits from their previous album Perfecto, Strong coffee and I ate too many french fries, and wandered thus between the old material, welcomed in exaltation, and the new, received with almost as much warmth. We even heard the words of leather coco sung by the public, ultimate proof that the new songs will meet the same fate as the old ones: enter our heads. “That touches the bulls eye from the heart,” said Claude Cobra, moved.

We also wandered through musical genres, heavy metal, rock’n’roll and quasi-grunge, languorous slows, funk and reggae, and we remembered that behind their good-natured attitude hide four awesome musicians. Their instrumental medley of rock songs, during which they string together dozens of cult pieces for a few seconds each, is played with such dexterity that the question does not even arise.

Claude Cobra, singer of Bleu Jeans Bleu

Upstage, Claude Cobra is more than a crowd entertainer or a singer of funny songs who rolls his r’s. With his undeniable charisma and his unshakable ease, he is the true cement of the evening. His presentations are short and funny, his sense of repartee is amazing, and his joy to be there is contagious. He also performs as a singer in this marathon of more than 20 songs performed from the pedal to the floor.

With their instantly recognizable look, Bleu Jeans Bleu has succeeded in becoming part of the popular imagination in just a few years. And after impressing in our minds expressions like I spoil you all dressed Where The king of line dancingthey are doing the same thing with songs like Swing in swimming poolthe best stress relief of the evening, and phrases already integrated, such as “The crazy carpet is not for the soft”, clearly a future classic.

It all ended happily with hoodie, sure. At the end of the evening, with a smile on your face, it is clear that the expression “top kitty” to describe a state of mind of satisfactory well-being has also been adopted. But it will never apply as well as a review of a Bleu Jeans Bleu show.
