Bayern start the season with a card against Frankfurt, Arsenal victorious at Crystal Palace

A week after winning the German Super Cup in Leipzig (5-3), Bayern Munich sent a new message to the competition by outclassing Frankfurt 6-1 (5-0 at halftime), opening the championship of Germany, Friday August 5 on the ground of Eintracht. In London, Arsenal did not fall into the trap of neighbor Crystal Palace and signed their first victory of the season (2-0).

To launch the 60th edition of the Bundesliga, Munich waves fell on Kevin Trapp’s goal for a whole half. If Leipzig had given in after the first quarter of an hour of play six days ago, Eintracht folded after only five minutes, in the fog of smoke, on a free kick maliciously slipped by Joshua Kimmich (1-0, 5th).

Six minutes later, on a badly returned corner, the side Benjamin Pavard scored Bayern’s second goal with a dry strike (2-0, 11th). And to replace Robert Lewandowski, his goal machine for eight seasons who left for Barcelona this summer, Bayern may not have just one but several players available, since the entire Munich attack shone on Friday, from Sadio Mané (3-0, 29th), author of the header of his second goal in two matches with Munich, to Jamal Musiala (4-0, 35th) and Serge Gnabry just before the break (5-0, 43rd).

Bayern were able to control the second half, despite a poor recovery from Neuer, who benefited ex-Nantais Randal Kolo Muani, scorer of his first goal with Frankfurt shortly after the hour mark (5-1, 64th) . Julian Nagelsmann took the opportunity to give his first minutes of play to Mathys Tel, who entered in the 65th minute, thus becoming Bayern’s second youngest player at 17 years 100 days, behind Paul Wanner (first game at 16 years and 15 days in January 2022). Midfielder Jamal Musiala came to plant the last nail shortly before the end of regulation time (6-1, 83rd). Bayern sent the message: there was no question of letting their 11th consecutive crown slip away.

In England, Arsenal won an encouraging 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park in the opening match of the new Premier League season.

Reinforced by their three recruits, in particular the former Marseillais William Saliba, back from loan and voted man of the match for his first appearance in the league, Mikel Arteta’s players showed more control than their opponents, especially in the twenty first minutes, until the opening of the score of the head of Gabriel Martinelli, at the reception of a deflection of Zinchenko on a corner of Saka (1-0, 20th).

A deserved goal, a few minutes after a brilliant action by Gabriel Jesus (4th), the Brazilian center forward from Manchester City, already comfortable at the forefront of the system put in place by his coach. The Gunners then gradually let Patrick Vieira’s players back into the game but held on. At the end of the game, the captain of the Eagles, Marc Guéhi, deflected a powerful center from Bukayo Saka (2-0, 85th) into his own goal and gave the North London players a first deserved success.
