Every day in Canada, more than 2.3 million farm animals are slaughtered for human consumption, according to data compiled by The duty. In 2022, 854 million farm animals were killed, a figure 22 times higher than the country’s population and which constitutes a record. Journalist Magdaline Boutros met with producers, animal rights activists and experts to document the living conditions of Quebec’s main farm animals, from their birth to the slaughterhouse.
