A year ago, female panda cubs were born at the Beauval zoo, in Loir-et-Cher. Tuesday, August 2, their birthday is celebrated in front of an audience won over by these animals.
The media from all over the world went to the Beauval zoo on Tuesday August 2 to celebrate the birthday of the two baby pandas, born a year ago. Each female received an apple and bamboo cake. A large crowd is present to celebrate this anniversary. “Pandas are my favorite animal, so I’m very happy”, says a little girl. In one year, the panda twins, stars of the zoo, have grown well. At their last weigh-in, their weight was close to 30 kg.
At birth, panda cubs weighed less than 150 g. For five months, they were protected and pampered, away from the zoo public. Raising these twins is a feat. “It’s exceptional because often pandas give birth to two babies, but usually they only raise the strongest, the biggest and the weakest die”, explains Rodolphe Delord, director of the ZooParc de Beauval in Saint-Aignan (Loir-et-Cher). In 2021, 1.4 million visitors came to admire the pandas at the zoo.
