Anti-reconciliation bracelets and domestic violence | Man found without his bracelet

The arrest of a man found without the anti-reconciliation bracelet that he was required to wear forced Quebec to tighten the screw by checking all the devices.

All anti-reconciliation bracelets in circulation to increase the security of victims of domestic violence had to be checked following an incident last week where a man managed to remove the tool in question.

“Last week, an individual who was required to wear an anti-reconciliation bracelet was intercepted by police officers even though he was not wearing his device,” reports the Ministry of Public Security in a press release.

The man in question was arrested for failing to comply with his release conditions. He is currently incarcerated.

The Minister of Public Security François Bonnardel has requested an operation to verify all anti-reconciliation bracelets in circulation. “All devices installed are compliant and functional,” assures the ministry.

In the hours following the reporting of this event, protocols were reinforced.

“We would like to assure victims benefiting from the program that all necessary measures have been implemented to preserve their safety,” said a press release.

Remember that the anti-reconciliation bracelet can be imposed by a judge, the Quebec Parole Commission or the management of a detention establishment.

In total, 279 devices have been imposed in Quebec so far.

Rigorous measures are taken to ensure the safety of the victim when a suspicious situation is detected. To date, 538 police trips have taken place at the request of the monitoring center.
