Alberta completes three-year agreement with Ottawa on health

(Calgary) The Alberta government has signed a three-year, $1.06 billion agreement with Ottawa to improve the health care system.

Alberta becomes the third province to conclude an agreement with the federal government: British Columbia signed in October and Prince Edward Island did so last Tuesday.

These bilateral agreements are part of the 196 billion national health agreement over 10 years that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau presented to the provinces and territories in February.

Prime ministers were expected to commit to massively improving the digitization of medical records and the collection of healthcare data.

Each province that signed the agreement during the year then had to propose an action plan with measurable objectives and specific deadlines, before obtaining funding from Ottawa.

Alberta says it will use the $1.06 billion over three years to increase access to primary care and digital health services, improve diagnostic imaging capacity and expand integrated health services. mentality of young people.

Quebec remains the only province that has not officially accepted the agreement. The government of François Legault sees in the conditions imposed by Ottawa federal interference in Quebec’s areas of jurisdiction – the provision of care. Negotiations continue between Ottawa and Quebec.
