An investigation was opened after the fire which broke out on Friday April 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the car of the “Objectif Mars” attraction at the Futuroscope in Poitiers. A lithium battery caught fire under one of the seats of the roller coaster.

It was in this Futuroscope attraction that the accident occurred on Friday morning April 7. At 10:15 a.m., a wagon caught fire, it was “Objectif Mars”, one of the most famous rides in the park. The fire was quickly extinguished, but two people were slightly injured, one in the tibia, the other burned in the neck. Transferred to the University Hospital of Poitiers (Vienne), she left in the afternoon. In the queue, visitors witnessed the scene, still in shock. “There was fire, it was impressive. We left so quickly, because we were afraid of what could be behind”says a man.

Lithium batteries

This is the first time that an accident of this magnitude has occurred at Futuroscope. This carousel opened two years ago. 36 people were in the car at the time. The president of the park explains that it was lithium batteries that caught fire. Since its creation, the carousel has been checked many times. So misunderstanding reigns. The attraction is closed until further notice and the Poitiers prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
