In Marseille, a 27-year-old man died on Saturday July 1. According to the prosecution, he suffered a violent shock to the chest, caused by the firing of a flash-ball type projectile. An investigation has been opened.
SATURDAY 1st of Julyviolent scuffles broke out near the Old Port of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), followed by a night of riots. A few hundred meters away, around 1 a.m., a man collapsed inanimate in front of a building. Mohammed Bendriss was a 27-year-old delivery man and father of a child of two. According to his family, he was not taking part in the riots. “I am still shocked. He left me all alone”regrets his widow. His cousin says: “He had seen police catching people, he was filming for his father.”
Use of video surveillance images
He would have filmed a police operation 700 meters from the place where he collapsed. What happened after these images? At the hospital, the doctor notices a suspicious mark on the body. According to the prosecution, the death was probably due to a violent shock to the chest, caused by the firing of a flash-ball type projectile. The judicial police and the general police inspectorate, in charge of the investigation, are trying to use the video surveillance images to find out the circumstances of the victim’s death.
