Tuesday, March 15, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, announced the thawing of the point of index of civil servants, blocked for five years. Some denounce an electoral measure.
Audrey Didier is a municipal agent. She earns 1,350 euros net per month, but her index point, which defines her salary, should be revised upwards, according to a promise from Emmanuel Macron, Tuesday March 15. “With all the costs we can have on a daily basis, it’s something we’ve been waiting for. We haven’t had a raise for a number of years”, she notes. In the municipal school, Céline Chabert, canteen agent receives 1,550 euros net per month, after 20 years of seniority. For her, this increase is welcome, since she feels affected by inflation.
Cleaners, police, nursing staff, teachers… around 6 million French civil servants have not seen their index point upgraded for six years. The last revaluation of 1.2% took place in 2016. The announcement, which falls shortly before the presidential election, is seen as electoral for some.
