Recently installed in a completely renovated space, adjacent to the atrium of the historic establishment located on Sherbrooke Street West, Améa is a Mediterranean-inspired café from the owners of Ristorante Beatrice, Pino Forgione and Max Caprio. Its delicious menu is designed by chef Michael Coppa, who has been pastry chef at Ristorante Beatrice for a decade.

In the warm 4624 sq. ft. space offering a hundred seats, brightened up by hanging plants, you can stop to sip a coffee accompanied by a sweet or have dinner, with friends or in front of your computer to telecommute a bit. .

While the cooks are busy in the open kitchen, we eat everything that is in the display: pizza in teglia baked in the Moretti Forni Italian oven, croissants and other tempting pastries (try the signature pistachio, strawberry and rhubarb croissant) and fine pastries like eclairs, cannolis — absolutely everything is homemade, according to the rules of the art.

We also offer a variety of crostini and sandwiches (with bread from the Miette bakery), salads and other gourmet dishes, which amazed us with their delicacy, flavors and textures, such as flame-grilled eggplant with whipped feta and pomegranate salsa or the salmon gravlax crostini on mashed avocado.

And this is only phase 1 of a more ambitious project, explains Mr. Forgione, who opened the Beatrice 25 years ago. At the back, a restaurant should take shape next year. Soon, Améa, which will begin to offer breakfasts such as shakshouka or sunny-side-up eggs served with Jerusalem bagels made on site (which are not boiled, unlike Montreal bagels), will add a selection of drinks and cocktails to its menu. as well as weekend brunches.
