About immigration | Boulet must withdraw his candidacy, according to Duhaime

(Quebec) The leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec Éric Duhaime returned Thursday to the controversy raised by the remarks of the Minister of Immigration, Jean Boulet, in an interview with CHOI Radio X. The latter had affirmed last week that 80% of newcomers do not work, do not speak French or do not adhere to Quebec values.

“I don’t understand how it is that this guy is still a candidate for the CAQ this morning,” he said at the microphone of host Dominic Mrais.

The leader of the Coalition avenir Québec, François Legault, had said the day before that Mr. Boulet had “disqualified” himself as Minister of Immigration. However, he kept him as a candidate in the riding of Trois-Rivières. The latter apologized when his remarks resurfaced on Wednesday.

“What I don’t understand is that Mr. Legault says in the same sentence that he is disqualified and in the same sentence he wants the world to vote for him on October 3. At some point, make up your mind! exclaimed the Conservative leader.

He, however, refused to say that Mr. Boulet is racist or xenophobic when asked by the host. “I don’t like it, calling people racists,” he replied. He apologized anyway. I’m not accusing him of being a racist, but I think his comments are so inappropriate that it disqualifies him. »

During a microphone interview with Paul Arcand on 98.5 FM on Thursday morning, Mr. Boulet indicated that he has “absolutely no” intention of resigning.

More details to come.
