A village in the Dordogne will host an equestrian world championship

The equestrian endurance world championship will take place in the Dordogne in 2024. Monpazier will host the competition September 7, 2024 according to information from France Bleu Périgord. 150 riders from 50 different nations will take part in this endurance race of 160 kilometers. Veterinary checks are scheduled every thirty kilometers to check the horse’s state of health.

The competition had not taken place in France for more than 20 years

Hosting the world championship is a real recognition “It’s really incredible, it’s an honor” declares the president of the association of equestrian raid organizers in the Dordogne, Jean-Noël Lafaure because “the endurance equestrian world championship has not taken place in France since the year 2000 in Compiègne”.

This championship will bring many people to the bastide town of Monpazier because some teams “especially those from South America” will arrive in the region a week or even a fortnight before the start of the event explains Jean-Noël Lafaure, president of the Association of organizers of equestrian raids in the Dordogne. Every summer, for 24 years, Monpazier has organized endurance races. Last summer, for three days, 400 riders came to take part in the six races scheduled.
