Several people were taken hostage on Saturday March 30 in a town in the center of the Netherlands, Ede, police reported. At the end of the morning, the authorities reported the release of three people detained, before announcing, at midday, the end of the hostage-taking and the arrest of a suspect. “For the moment, there is nothing to indicate that this is a terrorist act”the police had said a little earlier.
A security cordon had been set up around a bar-discotheque, the Petticoat, whose owner had confirmed with the daily De Telegraaf that its staff were being held hostage. Police say around 150 homes were evacuated and the city center closed. On its website, the municipality confirmed that the area was cordoned off and that riot police and explosives experts were on the scene. A negotiator had also been mobilized, specifies De Telegraaf.
