a policeman commits suicide with his service weapon

A policeman from 48 years old committed suicide with his service weapon this Thursday around 9 a.m., in an isolated place near the cemetery of La Tour, in Haute-Savoie, we learned from concordant sources. It was the gendarmes of the brigade bordering Saint-Jeoire who intervened at the scene of the tragedy, after being alerted.

He had just arrived in a new brigade

According to our information, the chief sergeant had just been assigned to the Taninges-Samoëns Brigade, at the beginning of August, as part of a service transfer. He previously worked in another brigade in Haute-Savoie, located under the jurisdiction of the Saint-Julien-en-Genevois company. This family father leaves behind two young children.

The Bonneville public prosecutor’s office has opened research to try to understand which could have led the gendarme to commit this desperate gesture. The investigation was entrusted to the research brigade of the Annecy gendarmerie company. An autopsy is to be performed on Friday.

At least 15 gendarmes have committed suicide since the beginning of the year in France, according to an article in Liberation published in mid-August (quoting a count from the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie).
