A 38-year-old mother died of drowning while saving her children in difficulty in a body of water in Reiningue (Haut-Rhin), AFP learned Monday October 2 from the gendarmerie. The two children, aged 6 and 12, did not know how to swim. They found themselves in difficulty, which alerted their mother, who tried to help them. But the latter did not know how to swim either and deep holes may be present in this body of water. The victim lost his footing and drowned. His children were able to return to the bank.
Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, the woman remained underwater for 40 minutes. Emergency services were unable to resuscitate her. This body of water is only supervised by aquatic lifeguards during the summer period, until September 3 this year.
