C-3PO head and Indiana Jones whip: movie memorabilia up for auction

Props, costumes, annotated scripts and other memorabilia from well-known films ranging from “Star Wars” to “James Bond” to “Indiana Jones” to “The Shining” will be auctioned off for movie buffs who would like to get their hands on a collector’s item.

Among the items that will be sold to the highest bidders next November, the head of the famous golden droid C-3PO from the Star Wars franchise, played by actor Anthony Daniels, will be at the top of the list, and could well sell for between 575,000 and US$1.15 million, according to what Forbes reported on Monday.

“I hope the pieces go into the right hands. I hope this can please Star Wars fans and collectors around the world and give them a chance to own a piece of the real thing,” the 77-year-old actor said in a statement, saying he was “delighted » that his collection was taken care of by the antique dealer Propstore specializing in films, according to the American media.

Indiana Jones whip, shooting script for “The Shining” hand-annotated by Stanley Kubrick, Joaquin Phoenix’s arena costume in “Gladiator”, “Captain America” shield: in total, nearly 1,800 items and souvenirs from more than 580 films and television series will be on sale.

Other items from the Star Wars franchise, including a pair of the droid’s fingers, sold for between US$6,000 and US$12,000, an unopened box of C-3PO cereal which could fetch between US$495 and US$990, and a handwritten page from the speech of the robot in the Ewok village, between 1800 and 3600 US$, can also be acquired.
