Sarah Perret, associate researcher in geopolitics of risk at ENS Paris, reacts in 12/13 info to the terrorist attack that occurred on Friday March 22 near Moscow, Russia. It was claimed by the Islamic State.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack near Moscow (Russia) on Friday March 22. The toll so far shows more than 133 dead in the attack. The Kremlin, for its part, has still not commented on the facts. Sarah Perret, associate researcher in geopolitics of risk at ENS Paris, firstly recalls that “Most of the attacks that are produced are mainly in countries like Iraq and Syria, and do not benefit from the media coverage that an attack could have in a country like Russia”.

An “opportunity” for the Islamic State?

“There, for once, it seems to be a kind of opportunity, since by claiming responsibility for this attack, we see how it produces this state of astonishment”, continues the researcher. This “echo” allows, according to Sarah Perret, the Islamic State to “to make people talk about them, where they are losing ground”.
