(Montreal) A man in his forties is in critical condition in Montreal on Friday morning after he was stabbed in a rooming house in the Lachine borough late Thursday evening. Police have already arrested a suspect in this case.
The man was allegedly attacked late Thursday evening, shortly before 11:45 p.m., by his neighbor in a rooming house located on 1D avenue, near Provost Street, in the Lachine borough.
After the intervention of first responders, the 40-year-old man, who had been injured “in the upper body”, was transported to hospital. According to information provided by the Montreal police, he was “semi-conscious” when he was transported by ambulance.
About two hours after the incident, medical authorities still feared for his life.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old suspect was arrested near the scene of the attack. The latter also had to be hospitalized, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
“According to the first observations made by the police on site, the victim would have been attacked by the suspect with a sharp object in one of the rooms, and the suspect would have tried to flee before the arrival of the police,” explained the agent Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).
For the moment, the police do not know the reasons which would have pushed the suspect to attack his victim. The link between the two men also remains unknown.
A security perimeter has been set up and the SPVM investigation is continuing into this matter.
