A robbery took place on Saturday May 18 in a jewelry store in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. “Several individuals carrying long weapons used motorcycles to commit their misdeeds and flee”reports a police source to franceinfo, confirming information from journalist Clément Lanot on X.

The events took place around 11:40 a.m. and targeted the Harry Winston jewelry store, located on avenue Montaigne, a stone’s throw from the Champs-Elysées, according to another police source. A shot was fired from outside the establishment. No injuries were reported.

The loot is, at this stage, unknown. An investigation was opened and entrusted to the banditry suppression brigade of the Paris judicial police, the Paris prosecutor’s office reported to AFP. A public prosecutor visited the site, the same source said.

The Harry Winston jewelry store on Avenue Montaigne was the target of a double robbery in 2007 and 2008, during which 900 pieces of jewelry were stolen, for damage established by the jeweler’s insurer at 78.9 million euros, one of the largest in the world in this type of business. In 2015, the Paris Assize Court sentenced eight men to sentences ranging from nine months in prison to 15 years of criminal imprisonment.
