Back to the days of the Cold War. This is the story of a top secret listening station used by the Americans to spy on the Soviet enemy. This site, nicknamed “The Big Ear”, was gradually transformed into a museum after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The spies deserted the place just after the fall of the Berlin Wall (Germany). This is the big building where the Americans listened to the conversations 24 hours a day, on the other side of the Iron Curtain. But even 34 years later, visitors feel like they’ve traveled back in time. “It’s the secret side that attracts me”, dedicationone of the visitors. It is now possible to venture inside the building built in 1963 and explore hallways and offices.
A former soldier as a guide
Christopher McLarren, a former American soldier, officiates as a guide to show the places. He knows the place very well, having worked there himself in the mid-1990s.970. For two years, he analyzed the signals picked up in the East. “When something was brewing, we were probably the first to know and we had to alert, it was our job”, he declares. This place, long forbidden, has now become a very trendy place.
