Toulouse: a building in the city center collapsed in the middle of the night
(France 2)
On the night of Friday March 8 to Saturday March 9, a loud crash echoed in the streets of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) where a building collapsed. The dilapidated building had already been evacuated earlier in the week.
Confusion in the center of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). A cloud of dust invaded an alley in the city’s historic district on the night of Friday March 8, where a three-story building collapsed. The building was evacuated on Tuesday March 5. As a precaution, 26 residents of neighboring buildings were evacuated in the middle of the night by firefighters. “For the residents of Toulouse, it’s sad to see a building fall”notes a man.
A cordoned-off neighborhood
The building was located on a shopping street in the center of Toulouse, between Place du Capitole and Place des Carmes. In the rubble, around fifty firefighters and dog brigades are looking for possible victims. An interior wall had already collapsed a few days earlier. For several months, tenants and owners have alerted the building trustee. The evacuated neighbors were taken care of in a room at the town hall. The area will remain cordoned off while it is cleared.
