After the announcements of an upcoming documentary on the iconic rapper Soprano by Star, the new Disney + streaming service, it’s Amazon Prime’s turn to unveil a project on another great figure in French rap. During a press conference, the platform unveiled its documentary project on OrelSan, which is scheduled for release in 2021. His real name Aurélien Cotentin, the artist with multiple gold and platinum records is one of the most iconic rappers of his generation. This production will be an unprecedented immersion in the life of OrelSan, on the obstacles and surprises encountered, but also on the difficulty of staying at the top.

The artist’s career has indeed not been a long quiet river. If his last album The party is over, released in 2017, was certified diamond disc and had exceeded 80,000 sales in one weekend – a record – the rapper’s debut is less glorious. The documentary will return to the controversy surrounding the title “Dirty bitch” published in 2009, which made him known to the general public … and led to legal proceedings. For the women’s defense movement “Ni Putes Ni Soumises”, a civil party, the words constituted a “Provocation to crime”. The young man was finally released in 2016.
According to Amazon Prime, the documentary will be an opportunity to discover the private life of the artist, “A facet of the rapper that only his relatives know”. Georgia Brown, Amazon Originals Europe Creative Director, says Orelsan is “an extremely talented artist”, but that “His fans don’t know much about him”. The work will be produced by Clément Cotentin (Blocked), the brother of OrelSan, and by Christophe Offenstein (Les Petits Mouchoirs, Blood Ties, How far is it).
In 2021, Amazon Prime will continue its conquest of the French public with other blue-white-red productions. On the film side, the platform unveiled at a press conference the first images of the Ball of the fools, a film by and with Mélanie Laurent retracing the fates of women interned in psychiatric hospitals at the end of the 19th century. In Flashback, a brilliant and cynical lawyer will find herself transported in the past and will meet there women who have changed the course of history.
Series side, Mixed will tell the story of a boys’ high school which will see girls arrive for the first time in the 1960s. Finally, the series Totems promises action with the adventures of a scientist turned spy for the French secret services and the CIA in the middle of the Cold War.
