An unexpected strike by French employees of Eurotunnel, a subsidiary of the Getlink group, the company managing the Channel Tunnel, on Thursday December 21, caused the closure of the work. Rail traffic is interrupted “until mid-afternoon at least”explained the company on X (formerly Twitter).“The union organizations rejected the exceptional bonus of 1,000 euros announced at the end of the year by management and called for a strike to demand that it be tripled”Eurotunnel management told AFP.

Result: all trains circulating in the tunnel, but also shuttles transporting cars and trucks, are therefore blocked. Four trains will have to “return to their starting point, as they are now cancelled”specified Eurostar on.

While the first departures for the holidays have begun, the company advises “to all passengers traveling today” from or to the United Kingdom “to postpone their trip”.
