The inter-union is counting on a powerful mobilization in the streets, Monday, May 1. The point with Julien Cholin, Place de la République in Paris, from where the procession will start in the afternoon.

1.5 million people are expected across France to demonstrate on Monday May 1. “This is the objective put forward by the number one of the CFDT, Laurent Berger. The authorities, they are counting on 650,000 people throughout France, 80,000 in Paris”, reports Julien Cholin, live from the Place de la République (Paris). A massive and historic crowd, “since this is the first time since 2009 that the unions will march side by side. 14 years, therefore, that they had not displayed such unity on May 1st”recalls the journalist, who underlines that the repeated message “will be the same as in recent weeks: no to the pension reform just adopted by the National Assembly.”

A bill from the LIOT group studied in the Assembly on June 8

Two dates are to be remembered: that of Wednesday May 3, when the Constitutional Council will study the second proposal for a referendum of shared initiative (RIP). And on June 8, “a bill, proposed by the LIOT group, will be studied in the Assembly. It will simply propose to repeal this pension reform”, says Julien Cholin. What to do from here? “The question divides the unions, since on the one hand the CFDT has announced that it will participate in possible meetings proposed by the Prime Minister, if ever she is invited, while the CGT would prefer that the decision be taken collectively, during the planned inter-union (Tuesday, May 2) in Paris”concludes the journalist.
