The role of the State is “to raise awareness” faced with the reality of war, argues François Lecointre, former chief of staff of the armed forces on franceinfo Monday May 6, while Emmanuel Macron once again assumed the possibility of sending Western troops on the ground in Ukraine. This message “addresses our public opinion”.

“The West, particularly Europe, has locked itself in a fairly virtual bubble” facing conflicts “around the world”, he says. He denounces “a refusal of this reality” that need “prepare for war”.

“We consider that as war is the worst of barbarities, we absolutely want to erase it, delegitimize it, deny it. There is a deliberate approach,” he says. “Except that in reality, it’s not us who choose.”
