Reporters Without Borders is organizing an action on Monday May 6 in front of the Arc de Triomphe to protest against the welcome given to Chinese President Xi Jinping, visiting France, Agence Radio France learned from the NGO. RSF wants to create a parody of a head of state parade by bringing a truck to the Place de l’Etoile, which will then drive down the Champs-Élysées.

On this heavyweight, are displayed “images of the faces of Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping” with the slogan “119 journalists in detention, welcome to France Xi Jinping”. RSF intends to point out that 119 journalists are currently in detention in China and that its representatives can no longer travel to Chinese territory.

“On April 10, one of our employees was unable to return to China”, “she was expelled from Hong Kong (…) without any real reason”, Thibaut Bruttin, deputy director general at Reporters Without Borders, is thus exasperated with the Radio France Agency. The NGO denounces “the hypocrisy of the welcome given to the Chinese president” who will not “mention of problematic human rights issues in China”as “freedom of the press and the right to information”.
