291,000 people still did not have access to electricity on Saturday morning, and around 100,000 of them could not find power until Monday.
At a press conference in the metropolis, the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Pierre Fitzgibbon, announced that the food markets would be exceptionally open in six regions on Sunday, Easter Day. The regions in question are Montreal, Montérégie, Laval, Outaouais, Laurentides and Lanaudière.
“More than 70 centers for disaster victims are open to accommodate people in need,” the Minister also specified. He says that 1,500 Hydro-Quebec workers are currently on the ground to repair the damage.
“There is still a lot of work to do, we do not hide it,” said the director of energy system control at Hydro-Quebec, Maxime Nadeau, also present at the press conference. “In the previous days, we worked to restore the main sections […] but from now on, the rate of recovery will decrease. Breakdowns could take longer to repair in areas that are more difficult to access”
