Under the artistic direction of Guy Bervin (bassist working in particular with Billy Obam or Princess Erika), the accordion and the songs of Guilhem Surpas (co-founder of the groups Almacita and Mena Bruch) land on the lively groove of musicians with eclectic backgrounds : Pascal Saulière, trumpeter (he composes and plays with Les Ejectés), Benoît Saulière drummer (teacher for the Dordogne Conservatory), Cécile Douchet on saxophone (founder of the group Akan Khelen) and Thibaut Marsan on keyboards (composer of the MovieJazzProject).

The texts written and sung by Guilhem Surpas, in French and Occitan, sprinkled with English and Spanish, deal with topical themes such as the excesses of profitability at work in Camera or the reception of refugees in No tenemos time. They also tell of dreams, love and freedom.

The first album was recorded in the fall of 2018 at Shaman Studio in Bordeaux by Leroy Chambers. The title “La vie est belle” is sung in duet with Françoise Chapuis of Femmouzes T. G. Surpas

Humus Machine’s approach is to tap into the resources we have under our feet (languages, traditions) and feed on them to talk about today’s world.

ESPERANÇA is the 2nd album of the group HUMUS MACHINE and the singer Guilhem Surpas. The texts in Occitan and French are spiced with Spanish or English. ESPERANÇA is a cry, an incantation: Hope I want your warmth, hope I want your song, hope when the world is crazy, hope I want your love. ESPERANÇA is a repertoire of committed creations, which the group distills with a real energy of sharing. On an energetic rhythm, supported by a horn section? impactful, let yourself be carried away in this universe. A single watchword: FREEDOM!
